New Employees
Ellumen gained over 40 new team members in 2020. Through this, we’ve been able to streamline our onboarding processes and training.
Teleworking Adjustments
Ellumen’s transition to a virtual work environment proved timely in 2020 given the complexities of the global pandemic. With our virtual processes and toolsets firmly established by the beginning of 2020, we were able to operate seamlessly as an organization throughout the year despite the changing dynamic related to COVID-19. The virtual environment provided employees the necessary flexibility to adjust to the new normal, support home schooling duties and stay safe and healthy.
New Headquarters
Ellumen officially relocated headquarters to 8403 Colesville Road STE 340 in vibrant downtown Silver Spring, Maryland. The office was opened to select employees on July 1st, 2020. The new office is located within the Silver Spring Metro Plaza, offering an easy and accessible commute from nearby Washington, D.C. and northern Virginia. The new headquarters is designed to be modern, spacious and allow for easy collaboration.

Due to the HIMSS 2020 conference being cancelled due to COVID-19, we decided to bring our presentation on medical imaging interoperability online. In this webinar, Jack Vogel explains that standards-based changes in medical image exchange allow for maximum immediate impact and future readiness.
Morgan State University Partnership
This year we had the honor of working with Morgan State University to give students the opportunity to get practical experience working on a real business case. Ellumen is heavily invested in ensuring the success of the VA’s Medical Logistics Redesign and the DoD’s modernization of its Medical Logistics Supply Chain system. This is why we reached out to Morgan State, Maryland’s largest HBCU, to assist us with thinking forward on innovative ways to help with user adoption of the modernized systems.
Project Highlights
We expanded our VA SCIP portfolio to include support of VA’s VistA Imaging product, which provides VA clinicians across the enterprise access to medical images and scanned documents. In 2020 our team delivered numerous product enhancements/updates that were well received by VA clinicians and, most importantly, had a positive impact on the quality of care provided for our Veterans. Additionally, the SCIP project team has exemplified the principles of DevSecOps in their work. By ensuring security remains a shared focus, the team has successfully maintained the ATO for their existing systems, achieved an ATO for new cloud environments, and supported the integration of imaging applications into an approved ATO boundary.
Our Ellumen VDIF played a crucial role in VA’s Electronic Health Record Modernization (EHRM) by designing, developing and deploying several capabilities that were integral to the success of Cerner “Go Live” at Spokane VAMC. The VDIF team also delivered major enhancement to VA’s integration with private sector partners. By transitioning the legacy VHIE application to the VDIF platform, VHIE was able to support the increased demands from the Mission Act while at the same time experiencing enhanced performance and reliability.
